Open Studios North Fife 2019

Greetings from Folkland!

Spring has arrived here in Scotland, and I’m enjoying my favourite time of the year. The new leaves are lush and bright, and I even saw my first swallows yesterday. It’s truly beautiful.

I’m really excited to tell you that I’ve started work on my second book. This follows on from Folkland Fables, and is a guide to the mythical creatures who live around the coast of Scotland. It’ll take me a while to take all the photographs, then etch the creatures though. I’ve got a schedule drawn up which, if I manage to keep to it, means I’ll complete all sixteen pictures by the end of October 2020…

I’ve finished the first picture though, which is of  mermaids. Below is a wee movie of the progression of my etching. The base photo was taken on my favourite beach for a sausage sizzle at East Wemyss, Fife. This beach is extra special because it’s next to some amazing caves full of  prehistoric Pictish carving.

Every year, May comes around really quickly, and all of a sudden it’s only one week to go till Open Studios North Fife.

I’m delighted to invite you to visit my studio between Saturday 4th till Monday 6th May 10am-6pm each day.

There are an amazing 90 artists participating this year, so the whole of North Fife will be buzzing with inspiration and demonstrations of various creative techniques.

I’ll be selling new original artwork, prints, books, etching kits, and greetings cards.

Please come along and say Hi if you’re in the area. I love this event, and feel incredibly privileged to take part in it.

BTW I’m doing lots of baking next week, so there’ll be plenty of cake available too!

As well as my highly detailed book images, this year I’ve started etching smaller, simpler pictures of my characters, portraying other aspects of their life in Folkland Wood.

This picture is titled: “How to deal with an irritating unicorn no. 1”.

It’s forming part of a series, because I keep imagining unicorns being stuck in silly places while looking through my collection of Falkland Estate photos…

It’s available for sale at Open Studios

As always, thank you so much for your support and your interest in me and my books. I truly appreciate every single one of you.
